The SEL training and daily companion for every adult in your education ecosystem, from the classroom to the front office to home. Start with yourself, explore the science behind behavior, and use the six SEL Muscles™ and Notice Choose Act® in everyday interactions with students. Six trainings, one for every role on campus.

WHAT THIS IS

A trusted space on every campus, all year long.

Building Trusted Spaces develops the adults who shape how a campus feels: an eight-module training in the science and practice of trusted spaces, followed by a daily companion through the school year. It is a Tier 1 toolkit. It is not a counseling curriculum or crisis training, and it never replaces professional judgment.

THE TRAINING
Eight modules, self-paced

Start with yourself, understand the science behind behavior, build your six SEL Muscles™, and practice Notice Choose Act®. Finish with a certificate of completion.

THE DAILY COMPANION
A focus for every week of the year

One page for the week: the focus, where it appears in your work, and what to say. Set your own calendar and pace.

THE PRACTICE ROOM
Practice difficult conversations

Talk through a realistic scenario with a simulated student, family member, or colleague, then review a debrief of the conversation.

ADVICE FROM THE FIELD
Short interviews with school counselors

Conversations with working school counselors on building trusted spaces in their roles. Films from the A Trusted Space® series run throughout the training.

FOR YOUR MTSS TEAM

Tier 1 support from every adult on campus.

Strengthening Tier 1 reduces the number of students who need Tier 2 or Tier 3 support.

MTSS SUPPORT MODEL
FEWSOMEALLIntensiveTargetedUniversal
TIER 1 · UNIVERSAL

Building Trusted Spaces at Tier 1

Teachers, classified staff, school counselors, and school leaders use the six SEL Muscles™ and Notice Choose Act® with every student, so trust is in place before conflict arises.

TIER 2 · TARGETED

Fewer students reach Tier 2

Small groups and targeted plans stay with your school counselors and student services team.

TIER 3 · INTENSIVE

Intensive support for a few

Intensive, individual support will always exist for the students who need it most. Building Trusted Spaces does not replace it or your district’s MTSS plan.

A training for every role on campus.

Each training carries the same eight modules and weekly focus, with examples and practice written for that audience. A district can enroll one group or the whole campus, and families can take part at home.

FOR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Support for California community schools.

The California Community Schools Partnership Program names four features of a community school. Building Trusted Spaces and Playgility support all four.

Integrated support services

Teachers, classified staff, school counselors, and student services staff share one language for supporting students.

Family and community engagement

Building Trusted Spaces for Families brings the same training home, with a weekly note about what the school is focusing on.

Collaborative leadership and practices for educators and administrators

School leaders and staff learn the same framework and follow one weekly focus on a calendar the district sets.

Extended learning time and opportunities

Playgility for ELO brings the experiential SEL curriculum to expanded learning programs, aligned to the California Quality Standards for Expanded Learning.

Building Trusted Spaces is included with Playgility, the experiential SEL curriculum that teaches students the same six SEL Muscles™ through play in PE and expanded learning programs.
